The North Wing Apartment on Shoreham Beach
This well-appointed apartment forms the North Wing of a private house on Shoreham-Beach, which is the name for a narrow peninsula bordered by the English Channel to the south and the River Adur to the north. If Shoreham-by-Sea isn't busy enough for you, the bright lights of Brighton are just a few miles east, easily reached by car, or if you want a drink with your night out, the 700 bus service is convenient and uber cheap (20 minutes stroll to the bus stop in town, just over the footbridge).
The apartment is entirely self-contained with a private entrance reached by a gated alley alongside the house and visitors enjoy off-street parking with a dedicated guest parking area on the large driveway.
Guests have their own entrance door to the apartment living room, where they will find a custom fitted kitchenette with sink, hot rings, kettle, toaster, a combi microwave oven and a full sized fridge with freezer compartment. There's also a small dining or work table and a couple of comfy chairs from which you can relax in front of a good-sized wall mounted TV.
Moving into the apartment, there's a hallway with hooks for coats, a full length mirror and hidden behind a curtain is the connecting door to the main house; this is heavily soundproofed and bolted shut on both sides to ensure your privacy.
The sizeable bathroom has a full sized bath, over which is a drip rail from which damp wetsuits etc. can be hung to drip dry, a separate shower, sink and of course a loo. There's a radiator to keep things warm plus a fixed electric fan heater if needed. Bath towels are provided, though we ask guests not to take these out of the apartment and to bring their own beach towels
The separate bedroom has a double bed and a fitted wardrobe, plus a bookshelf with a selection of books you are welcome to browse. We've also placed another wall mounted TV in the bedroom.
With regards to the TV's, they are linked to both FreeView and online iPlayer, Channel 5 and My5 services. If you want to use Netflix or Amazon then bring your Firestick and plug it in - both TV's have HDMI ports.
There's a dedicated guests Wi-Fi network linked to a high speed fibre broadband service offering speeds of up to 300Mbs. There are also plenty of electrical sockets including a few with built-in USB charging outputs (but you'll need your own leads).
Outside is a patio area looking to the garden (we are not good at gardening so it's questionable whether this is a feature). We have provided a solid picnic table and a privacy screen so you can enjoy your breakfast coffee in secluded sunshine.
There's also an area where guests can keep bikes and boards etc. Although not strictly secure, this area is out of sight and in over 20 years living here we have never had any security issues (the front drive is covered by Ring cameras. To assist with after-dark returns to the property we have installed an automatic floodlight to the front and low-level automatic lights along the alley to the apartment door at the rear of the property (though we have a few urban foxes that seem to enjoy the illumination as much as our guests).
The house is in a quiet residential area set one street back from the beach and you'll be looking out to sea within 5 minutes of leaving your front door.
For those driving an electric vehicle, by arrangement and for a fee we can also offer access to our rapid charge point.
Your hosts are Steve and Karen Vyse, who are there if you need some help, but will otherwise respect your privacy.
Although we don't allow pets, we do have our own, so if you have an allergy to cats or dogs we would suggest you look elsewhere (we keep the dog away from guests with a separate fenced area on the other side of the house).
We offer the apartment with a two night minimum stay.
